Ulric Joseph
(Born, Trinidad 1971)
Ulric Joseph studied painting (BA Hons.) and digital art (MA) at the Maryland Institute of Art and has exhibited extensively in America, the Caribbean, and the UK. Having studied painting, digital art, and computer programing, Joseph combines diverse elements in his artist output to create highly evocative pieces that speak to the human condition in the digital age. After studying Computer Science at the University of the West Indies, Ulric Joseph left the Caribbean to study Painting at the Maryland Institute of Art on an $80,000 scholarship. Upon graduating with honours, he went on to earn his Masters of Art in Digital Art also at the Maryland Institute of Art, where he continued to lecture for 6 years. Difficulties in obtaining US citizenship forced him to leave his job and migrate to England.
Once established in the UK, Joseph started his own media company, Arikain Media. Despite his success in London in both business and artistic development, Joseph has returned to Trinidad with his two young daughters. Joseph is eager to give back to his homeland by way of his multifaceted abilities and is looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead. He hopes to start a local art academy recognizing that “there is a culture of art (in Trinidad and Tobago) and I want to give back to my nation by way of education. There is no such thing as too much talent and I hope that my venture will be able to elevate the standard of life for many people by helping them to recognise and utilise their artistic talents just as I was encouraged to use and develop mine.”
Joseph currently works out of his south Trinidad home as a multi-media designer for Fairview Media, New Haven, Connecticut. His art pieces are also on display at the Novas Art Gallery and Campbell’s of London, both in London, as well as the Stony Creek Art Gallery of Branford, Connecticut.
